Miguel Albuquerque does not resign

The president of the Regional Government does not resign.

Miguel Albuquerque has just announced that he will remain in office, despite the investigations being carried out by the Judiciary Police (PJ).

The leader of the Madeiran executive clarified that “a set of public works” are at stake, as well as the Curral das Freiras cable car tender, licensing in Praia Formosa and the urban and interurban public transport tender, adding that this is not the sale of Quinta do Arco or the Madeira Free Trade Zone process.

In these first statements, Albuquerque guaranteed that the Regional Government and himself will “collaborate actively and consistently with PJ” to clarify the situation. Even if he becomes a defendant, he refuses to resign, so that he can better defend his innocence.

“I’ve never had any case of corruption” and “no one buys me” were phrases used by the president of the Regional Government, maintaining that Madeirans have known him “for a long time”. And about Pedro Calado, he stated that “he is a politician of great quality”, defending the “excellent work” he has done as head of the Funchal Chamber. “He is a serious person”, says Albuquerque.
