Pedro Calado, Avelino Farinha and Custódio Correia 4 hours standing to read the indictment order

Arrested defendants spend seventh night in PJ dungeons.

Defense expects the judicial interrogation to begin tomorrow and regrets unnecessary reading of the facts.

The three defendants detained as part of the alleged corruption case in the Autonomous Region of Madeira were presented today, for the fourth time, before the criminal investigation judge. After a morning filled with procedural requirements, the afternoon and early evening was occupied by reading the indictment order.

Pedro Calado, Avelino Farinha and Custódio Correia stood for four hours listening to the reading of the facts for which the defendants are indicted by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Paula Sá e Cunha, lawyer for the former vice-president of the Regional Government of Madeira, considers that the process was unnecessary considering that the defendants already had access to the document.

Asked about a possible measure to release the defendants pending the application of coercive measures, Pedro Calado’s representative states that “there are not many legal measures”, assuming that he is “faced with a legal void”, hoping that the interrogation will end by the end of the week.
