Torrential rain on the West Coast

Extremes of 18.3 mm/10 min and 37.8 mm/1h accompanied by lots of lightning.

The rain announced for this Sunday arrived late in the afternoon and in torrential form on the west coast of Madeira.

The Ponta do Pargo and Prazeres meteorological stations recorded, in the last hour (until 7 pm), very significant amounts of precipitation. In Prazeres, it took just over half an hour to accumulate 37.8 liters per square meter (mm), that is, there was just over 2 mm left to ‘overflow’ to the red warning value. In this location, the extreme rainfall in 10 minutes reached 16.4 mm.

In the neighboring town of Ponta do Pargo, there was also heavy rainfall (18.3 mm/10 min and 31.6 mm/1h).

Accompanied by the flood, there are many flashes of lightning that illuminate this beginning of night.
