Former prosecutor defends “public explanation” about sending PJ elements to Madeira

The Attorney General of the Republic, José Cunha Rodrigues, says that a “public, complete and urgent explanation” is needed regarding the sending of more than 200 members of the Judiciary Police to Madeira on a military plane to carry out searches.

“I consider that the simultaneous sending to an Autonomous Region of hundreds of inspectors from the Judiciary Police, on military planes, to carry out searches and the prior deployment of media bodies cannot be justified for common reasons of a procedural nature and transparency, and They demand a public, complete and urgent explanation. That’s what I can say”, he says in statements to ECO.

According to José Cunha Rodrigues, “there are rules of democracy and the rule of law that are not limited to formal concepts and that require substance. That is, that respond to imperatives and reasons that are common to liberal democracies”.

The former Attorney General of the Republic, José Souto Moura, also appeared “surprised” by this entire apparatus, lamenting “the occurrence of yet another violation of judicial secrecy”.

“The fact that journalists from the continent were there means that there was a violation of judicial secrecy”, he also says in statements to ECO.
