Idalina Perestrelo and Francisco Andrade acquitted in the case of the tree fall in Monte

The former vice-president of Funchal City Council and the person responsible for gardens in the municipality were acquitted in the case of the tree fall that killed 13 people and injured around half a hundred in 2017.

Idalina Perestrelo and Francisco Andrade were accused of committing, in material terms, 13 crimes of negligent homicide, also responding to 24 crimes of harm to physical integrity through negligence.

On August 15, 2017, during religious ceremonies in honor of Nossa Senhora do Monte, an oak tree around 150 years old fell on the crowd waiting for the procession to pass.
