Lots of irregularity with the diamond found.

Lawyer Paulo Sá e Cunha refuses to indicate the value indicated by the expert, only saying that “it is much lower” than 50 thousand euros and that it was not evaluated by Casa da Moeda.

Defense will require new expertise.

Pedro Calado’s defense considered this Wednesday, February 7th, that the examination of the diamond found in the office of the former mayor of Funchal could be in error as it was carried out “without any intervention from the defense”.

“The defense should have been notified to have a technical consultant present”, he explained, pointing out that the examination “could even be an irregularity” taking into account the lack of urgency: “A stone that is seized on the 24th and that is subjected to an examination on the 1st… there is no urgent reason why on day 1, therefore, seven days after the seizure, the defense should not be given the opportunity to be present at the examination and to request whatever is appropriate”.

Reaffirming, for the third time, that the diamond “has an insignificant value for a precious stone”, Sá e Cunha left the “certainty” that he will “request a new expertise”, especially because, he says, he would not put a diamond in the drawer of a secretary in the middle of paperwork.

Refusing to go into details, the lawyer stated this afternoon that the examination carried out on the diamond found in the office of the former mayor of Funchal was not carried out by the Casa da Moeda and indicated that the value “is much lower” than 50 thousand euros, being “in the hundreds of euros, more of less”.
