Around 30 operatives resume searches for French couple in São Vicente

As expected, the search for the French couple who have been missing since Saturday in São Vicente was resumed this morning by around 30 operatives.

“According to our planning, we will build the coastline in the Fajã da Areia area up to the center of São Vicente”, João Góis, commissioner of the Public Security Police (PSP), told DIÁRIO.

On the ground, elements of the PSP, the Regional Civil Protection Service, the drone team from the Madeira Operational Command, operational members of the Republican National Guard (GNR) and the National Maritime Authority, via a Maritime Police vessel, remain on the ground. In addition, there is also a criminal investigation team working in the “back office”, namely collecting information and generalizing images.

However, so far, the authorities remain without any concrete clue as to the whereabouts of the tourist couple, who were last seen on Saturday, around 3:45 pm, heading towards Porto Moniz, in the Calhau site, more precisely in Avenida Marcos Marques Rosa.

They are a 58-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman of French nationality. The tourist, who is 1.80m tall, was wearing a gray jacket and loose blue tracksuit trousers and the woman, who is 1.69m tall, was wearing a blue sports coat and carrying a pink backpack.

On social media, the daughter once again warned anyone who has information about her parents’ whereabouts to contact the police. “As far as I know, the police are searching the mountain, in Beira das Lapas. But, someone thinks they saw them, around 4 or 5 pm, on the 16th, near the old road next to the tunnel after the fall of water”, can be read in her publication.
