Only one of the two young people detained in Indonesia is from Madeira and has already contacted his closest family members.

The regional director of Communities and External Cooperation, Rui Abreu, told TSF-Madeira that the two detainees had already received a visit from members of the Portuguese embassy in Jakarta.

“What we know is that the prison visit has already taken place today, that the Portuguese authorities in Jakarta are also in contact with the Indonesian authorities, that the detainees are being held to be brought before the Court and also, it seems, They will have already been able to speak to their families”, said Rui Abreu.

“We will continue to monitor as much as possible, because this is a situation that is not very easy – being the country that it is – and also because this is obviously a responsibility of the Portuguese State”, concluded the regional director.

The 21-year-old, from Madeira is a higher education student in Economics, will have left Lisbon Airport on Saturday, March 16th, on a journey lasting approximately 19 hours and which will have cost him around 1,500 euros. .

The Madeiran man allegedly transported the drugs from the Portuguese capital to Jakarta – he also stopped in Dubai – having been intercepted by authorities when he landed at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, in Jakarta.

The recipient of the narcotic product would be a young Portuguese man who was already in Indonesia and who was also detained.
