Levada da Fajã do Rodrigues and Vereda da Ribeira da Janela routes reopened

The pedestrian routes classified PR 15 – Vereda da Ribeira da Janela and PR 16 – Levada Fajã do Rodrigues are now passable and reopened, after interventions in recent weeks.

In the case of Vereda da Ribeira da Janela, it is a trail that runs through the mountains overlooking the parish that gives it its name, passing through the Curral Falso area, following, in part, the route of Levada dos Cedros, with an extension of 2.7 kilometers.

The Levada da Fajã do Rodrigues, in the municipality of São Vicente, runs from the Ginjas site to the source of this levada, next to Ribeira do Inferno, over a length of 3.9 kilometers.

According to the information provided by the Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN), on its website, which does not yet contain an update regarding the two routes mentioned above, seven other classified routes remain closed on the island of Madeira. They are: PR 3 – Vereda do Burro; PR 4 – Levada do Barreiro; PR 7 – Levada do Moinho; PR 10 – Levada do Furado; PR 19 – Caminho Real do Paul do Mar; PR 20 – Vereda do Jardim do Mar; PR 23 – Levada da Azenha. Closed several years ago is also a variant of PR 1 – Vereda do Areeiro, more precisely the so-called Vereda do Pico das Torres (on the east side).

Partially closed are PR 12 – Caminho Real da Encumeada, due to ongoing works to remodel the Serra de Água Hydroelectric Power Station; as well as PR 3 – Levada do Pico Castelo, in Porto Santo, which only keeps the section between Camacha and Capela da Graça passable.
