A sailboat that had been adrift for two days called the vessel last night to the Santa Cruz Lifeboat Station of SANAS103.
As reported in a post made by SANAS on its Facebook page, there was only one crew member on board the sailboat, who was “struggling with engine problems, remaining adrift for several hours due to the little wind that was felt”.
“During the afternoon he managed to get closer to land and contacted the Funchal Marina, which in turn issued an alert. Without AIS and only radio communication, SANAS103 carried out a quick search south of Funchal and came across the sailboat approximately 300 meters from the port entrance and drifting towards the west”, he reported.
After checking the health status of the lone Norwegian crew member, the tow was carried out to the Funchal Marina.
