Flowers on tour in the classics

Today is another of the highlights of the Flower Festival, after last weekend the Flower float parade took place, now flowers are placed to decorate classic cars.

The event organized by the Secretariat of Tourism, in partnership with the groups participating in the procession, will take many people to Avenida do Mar in Funchal, aboard or following the classic cars.

The parade starts at 4:30 pm and will feature, among others, the president of the Regional Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, and the president of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, José Manuel Rodrigues.

According to a note from the Presidency, the so-called ‘Madeira Flower Classic Auto Parade’ is part of the big event for the Flower Festival that started on the 2nd of May and only ends on the 26th, the day of regional elections, it should be noted.

“202 old and classic vehicles are registered”, and “this year, the parade also features around 10 bicycles, which will circulate after the first cars”.

The parade starts on Avenida Sá Carneiro, next to the roundabout with the same name, and runs along Avenida do Mar on the north side, until next to Praça da Autonomia, returning to Avenida Francisco Sá Carneiro on the south side.

“In the end, the vehicles will be on display on Avenida Sá Carneiro until 6:30 pm”, with another good news: “In this year’s edition, two bands will perform on the bandstand located near Rotunda Sá Carneiro, from where the music will be broadcast throughout the entire itinerary of the car stop”.

“The event will feature 12 groups of extras, involving around 850 people. If we count on logistical collaborators, there will be a thousand people participating in the procession”, he assures. “Classic cars manufactured up to 1979 participate, with exceptions for later models when their originality is relevant”, he concludes.
