PS-Madeira and Juntos Pelo Povo have called, through their respective communications offices, a joint press conference, which will take place at 8 pm, this Monday, May 27th, at the Barceló Funchal Oldtown hotel.
None of the notes sent to the press by the parties provide further details about the call, but in the aftermath of Sunday’s election results, it can be assumed that there is an understanding between the two main opposition parties.
The PSD once again won the regional legislative elections in Madeira on Sunday.
According to provisional official data, the PSD obtained 36.13% of the votes and 19 seats in the regional parliament, made up of a total of 47 deputies, with 24 seats needed to have an absolute majority.
In second place, the PS got 11 elected, followed by the JPP, with nine, Chega, with four, the CDS-PP, with two, and the IL and the PAN, with one deputy each. BE and CDU leave the Legislative Assembly, in relation to the previous composition.
However, while the PSD lost votes on Sunday compared to the regional elections in September 2023 (285 less), the PS increased in number of votes (38 more), going from 884 to 922 (24.09% in 2023 and 24, 79% on Sunday).
The comparison is made based on the official provisional results of previous elections, since the final results published in Diário a República are not broken down by parish.
The third most voted political force in the parish was now the JPP, which in 2023 had been the fourth party, doubling the number of votes: it went from 304 (8.28%) to 611 (16.43%).
