Quercus rectified, today, the data released on May 10th regarding Golden Quality Beaches in 2024.
This year, Quercus classified 420 beaches with Gold Quality, 26 more than in the 2023 bathing season, the environmental association revealed today.
Quercus thus rectified the data released on the 10th of May regarding Beaches with Gold Quality in 2024, which pointed to 38 fewer with awards this year, eight of which are in Madeira.
Therefore, according to the new data, Madeira will have 31 beaches awarded a Gold Award from the National Association for Nature Conservation – Quercus, one less than in the previous bathing season.
It should be noted that this year, there are nine debuting bathing areas, awarded Gold Quality, one of which is in the Region. This is the beach (yellow sand) of Banda d’ Além, in Machico, which receives this distinction for the first time.
The “Golden Quality Beach” award annually distinguishes the quality of bathing water on Portuguese beaches, based on available official public information, taking exclusively into consideration the analyzes carried out in the laboratories of the different Regional Hydrographic Administrations, according to Quercus.
To receive the distinction, bathing water must meet several criteria, such as “excellent” water quality in the annual classification of the five bathing seasons prior to the last. All analyzes carried out in the last bathing season (2023) should have shown better results in several bacterial indicators.
