Simulacrum forces 80 extras to evacuate in Santa Cruz

The population of Santa Cruz woke up this Wednesday to the sound of the audible alarm from the Santa Cruz Sapadores Fire Station. This is due to the tsunami simulation, which made it possible to test this siren, which was previously used in catastrophe situations or to call firefighters who were not on duty.

In the exercise, where a wave of ten meters is expected in the bay of Santa Cruz – from Praia das Pedras Gordas to Praia das Palmeiras – 80 extras will be evacuated by local firefighters, who will also test the new command and communications vehicle in the Region, equipped with advanced communication systems and various equipment to support decision-making, direction and command of relief operations.

Following the supposed tsunami there will be six victims. The GNR will test its rescue teams at a wide angle, the PSP will test the kinesthetic team, in a scenario where there will be searches in the basement of a car park, and SANAS Madeira will carry out searches by sea.

Santa Cruz Secondary School will be the concentration and support area for the population.
