SIGA is the new public road passenger transport network applied in Madeira and Porto Santo, which will come into operation on the 1st of July and will be operated by 3 concessionaires: Companhia de Autocarros da Madeira (CAM), Siga Rodoeste and Horários do Funchal (HF).
The new SIGA network will allow you to travel throughout the island of Madeira and Porto Santo, with a renewed, more comfortable fleet with a new image. SIGA network buses will have a similar exterior image throughout the Autonomous Region of Madeira (with the exception of HF buses, which will, for now, maintain the same image, bearing only the SIGA network logo) and come in different models, which vary according to the type of service to be performed. In total, CAM will have 59 new buses and SIGA Rodoeste, 68. The majority are already in the Region. The fleet of buses used in this public service operation also includes 9 electric buses.
The transport service for passengers with reduced mobility will also be available, which can be requested through a pre-booking on the website Siga.madeira.gov.pt and, in the future, on the SIGA App.
The sales network for purchasing transport tickets will progressively expand to all municipalities in the Region, maintaining the current sales locations in the 1st phase, that is, with the entry into operation, from the 1st of July, of the new road passenger transport concessions, in Madeira and Porto Santo, thus begins the period of gradual transition to the new GIRO integrated ticketing system, which will allow its use in all transport on the network .
The Region’s new public transport network – SIGA, which will begin operating in July, is being officially presented, in a ceremony taking place in the auditorium of the Regional Secretariat for Equipment and Infrastructure building, with the presence of the President of the Government Regional, Miguel Albuquerque, and the secretary responsible for Transport, Pedro Fino.
New public passenger transport service operated by Horários do Funchal, SAM and Rodoeste has 127 new, more modern and environmentally friendly buses.
Transport at SIGA on July 1st is free, Miguel Albuquerque has just revealed.
