As part of the celebration of World Bicycle Day, which took place on June 3rd, the Meliá Madeira Mare hotel, in Funchal, is hosting the exhibition of a private collection that includes around 280 miniature bicycles.
Open to the general public, over the next few days, until June 15th, bicycle enthusiasts will have the opportunity to discover an impressive variety of miniatures, collected by João Gomes Sanches and from various parts of the world.
Currently, this private collection exceeds 350 units and compiles various models and materials, reflecting the collector’s incessant search for rare and unique pieces.
“During his childhood, João Gomes Sanches used the bicycle as a means of transport to get to school and had the habit of following events dedicated to this sport, such as the ‘Volta ao Algarve’. However, this was never a great passion It was then, during the countless trips he made for work, that he began to collect hundreds of miniature bicycles, and at this moment it is difficult to find parts that he does not own”, explains the organization.
This exhibition, which takes place in the 5-star hotel, has the support of the Regional Secretariat of Tourism and Culture of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, MADCycle, FreeRide, Decathlon and the Madeira Cycling Association.
