Inaugural flight connecting Toronto to Funchal cancelled

The aircraft was due to arrive at Madeira airport this evening.

The first flight connecting Toronto (Canada) to Funchal was cancelled. The Azores Airlines operation, which should start this Saturday, June 1st, is operated by EuroAtlantic Airways and carried out by a Boeing 767.

The aircraft was scheduled to arrive at 11:15 pm today at Madeira International Airport – Cristiano Ronaldo, according to information available on the ANA Aeroportos website.

Consequently, flight S4 267, scheduled for 6:40 am tomorrow, bound for New York (departing from Funchal), was also cancelled.

The routes are operated by EuroAtlantic Airways, a Portuguese company specializing in leasing, charter and air cargo.

DIÁRIO tried to contact Azores Airlines to understand what led to the cancellation of these flights, but received no response.

It is important to note that the Porto – Toronto flight, from the same airline, scheduled for 6:10 am today was also cancelled. The same aircraft would be used to operate the flight to Madeira, then on to New York this Sunday, June 2nd.

As reported in the printed edition of DIÁRIO this Friday, March 31st, from this month onwards, Madeira Airport will have three direct connections to North America. Today the Toronto-Funchal operation would begin and next Tuesday, June 4th, the Boston-Funchal connection will begin. The two operations join the weekly New York (JFK)-Funchal connection, launched in November 2022 also by Azores Airlines.
