The Autonomous Region of Madeira celebrates today, June 10th, the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities.
The celebrations begin, as usual, at the Palácio de São Lourenço, on Avenida Zarco in the city of Funchal, at 10:45 am, with the raising of the National Flag.
Then, at 11 am, the Central Courtyard of the São Lourenço Palace hosts a performance by the Madeira Military Band, led by Lieutenant Luís Afonso. At the same time, there will be a flower-laying ceremony next to the Monument to the Madeiran Emigrant on Avenida do Mar e das Comunidades Madeirans by the official entities of Madeira.
At 11:30 am, honorary distinctions will be awarded by the President of the Republic, in the São Lourenço Palace. The singing of the National and Regional anthems will be carried out by the Madeira Chamber Choir, directed by conductor Zélia Gomes, and the Madeira Military Band, directed by Lieutenant Luís Afonso.
