After winning the award for Best Cruise Destination in Europe at the World Cruise Awards in 2022 and 2023, Madeira is nominated this year for the award for Best Cruise Terminal in the World in terms of Sustainability. A distinction that adds to the nomination for Best Cruise Destination in Europe, which takes place for the third consecutive year, reveals the Administration of Ports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (APRAM), as reported by DIÁRIO on May 14th.
“We are very proud of this nomination, as it represents international recognition of the work that the Ports of Madeira have developed in terms of environmental sustainability, energy efficiency and decarbonization”, stated Paula Cabaço, quoted in a press release. The president of APRAM points out, as an example, some of the projects in which the Ports of Madeira are involved, such as SHIFT2DC and Green Ports Madeira.
“APRAM, SA is part of the international SHIFT2DC project, which received community funding of 11 million euros, with the purpose of promoting economic and sustainable energy alternatives”, highlights Paula Cabaço, explaining that the Ports of Madeira are the only infrastructure European port company to participate in this consortium, which brings together 30 partner entities from 12 countries.
The president of the board of directors of APRAM also highlights that the ‘Green Ports Madeira’ project corresponds to an investment of 700 thousand euros led by the regional port authority, which has as a priority to study the feasibility and impact of the development of Onshore infrastructure Power Supply (OPS) in decarbonization in ports.
