Madeiran researcher wins world competition in South Korea

João Pedro Sousa Mota, PhD student at the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DEM) of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC) and researcher at the Association for the Development of Industrial Aerodynamics (ADAI), won first prize at HVAC World Students Competition, which took place in the city of Pyeonchang, South Korea, announced today by the University of Coimbra.

According to the press release, this competition is a joint organization of several Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) associations worldwide, started in 2013, in which entities such as ASHRAE, from the United States of America, participate. CAHVAC, from China, ISHRAE, from India, REHVA, from Europe, SAREK, from South Korea and SHASE, from Japan.

João Mota was, recalls the UC, “the representative of Europe in this prestigious competition, after having previously won the national competition, organized by the Order of Engineers, and the European competition, organized by REHVA, last May, in Istanbul” .

“The work of the ADAI researcher was based on his thesis, carried out within the scope of the Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, in the specialty of Energy and Environment, at DEM, and corresponded to the acoustic optimization of a visor with aerodynamic sealing for healthcare professionals, developed in the VV4MC project , which included DEM, the UC Faculty of Medicine, ADAI and the company SET SA from the Iberomoldes group”, explains the same source.
