A young man of French nationality, in his 20s, suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest yesterday afternoon while he was at the Porto Moniz Natural Pools.
During one of the rounds in the solarium, one of the lifeguards detected that the young man was not feeling well and when approaching him confirmed that he had no pulse.
SANAS began resuscitation maneuvers, with the help of a Madeiran doctor and a foreign nurse. An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) was used, which, combined with Basic Life Support (BLS) maneuvers, were sufficient to reverse the situation.
The Volunteer Firefighters of São Vicente and Porto Moniz were called, transporting the victim to the emergency room at the Porto Moniz health center.
The Rapid Intervention Medical Team (EMIR) was called to support the transfer of the young man to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital.
