Swimmer Mayra Santos left the waters of Santa Cruz at midnight, with the aim of being the first person to swim unaided to Deserta Grande and back.
Mayra will swim today between Madeira and the Desertas Islands, an impressive 60 kilometers round trip.
According to the team, “Mayra is well and focused.”
“For the first time, this crossing is being made to reach important milestones in the history of professional open water swimmers”, the team added.
In addition to this challenge, the swimmer is preparing to represent Portugal at the Ice Swimming World Championships in Argentina between the 12th and 18th of August.
