The regional secretary for Equipment and Infrastructures today gave an extremely positive assessment of the first day of operation of the new public passenger transport network, SIGA
“Many people accepted the Government’s invitation and tried public transport, finding buses comfortable”, said Pedro Fino. The governor left the guarantee that the Executive will continue with its strategy of encouraging the use of public transport. He recalled the free service introduced in January, with results, as there has been an increase in the number of passengers.
This new network, it should be remembered, is operated by three concessionaires: Madeira Bus Company (CAM), Siga Rodoeste and Horários do Funchal.
There are 127 new buses, more modern and environmentally friendly. The transition is gradual, with the Government admitting that some of the older buses will continue to circulate for a while longer.
