Albuquerque recalls that this is his 25th fire and refuses to “apologize”

On the sidelines of the Funchal City Day ceremony, the President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, referred to the fires that are ravaging the Region, stating that resources, especially air resources, will be concentrated in the central mountain range – Pico Ruivo area – and guaranteeing that “there is no danger to people or homes”.

At 7 pm the governor will make a new assessment, but reiterated that the fires are evaluated “based on the results and we have no losses”.

The president, who recalls that this is already his 25th fire, recalled last year’s fire in Calheta, in which several houses were destroyed, ensuring that the current one “did not destroy infrastructure, no one was injured and the houses were safeguarded”.

When asked by the media about the combat that is being carried out, he stressed that “if the combat was wrong we would have houses burned and people injured”, but that the idea of the second helicopter is well received, “if the State assumes its responsibilities”.

Asked if he would apologize to the public, Albuquerque quickly stressed that “no”.

“Nobody gives me lessons. I take on political responsibilities” and “I’ve been following it from the very beginning”, he asserted.
