The two fronts of the rural fire that was raging in the municipality of Câmara de Lobos, in Madeira, are under control and practically extinguished, the mayor, Leonel Silva, told Lusa.

“In the case of Câmara de Lobos, we have the situation under control, the fire is practically extinguished and under surveillance, as it could reignite at any time, but we have already demobilized some equipment to eventually be reassigned to other needs”, said Leonel Silva.

According to the Mayor of Lobos, the return of people to their homes in Fajã das Galinhas will be reassessed today.

“I will also try to understand how the fire is in the neighboring municipality of Ribeira Brava, because there was an active area that bordered an area of Câmara de Lobos,” he said.

The fire broke out on Wednesday in the municipality of Ribeira Brava and the flames later reached Câmara de Lobos and Calheta.
