As JM reported yesterday, here , a car – with one occupant inside – fell down a ravine in Porto Santo, more precisely between Fonte da Areia and Porto das Salemas.
At the time, the Porto Santo Volunteer Firefighters had to wait for the tide to go out in order to intervene from 3:30 pm this Saturday, but, contrary to what was reported, by mistake, in today’s edition, the body was not recovered. The operations ended at 7:30 pm.
The teams tried hard, but were unable to do so due to access difficulties, and they resumed the search at 7 am today. However, when they arrived, they realized that the body of the man, in his 40s, was no longer inside the car, as confirmed yesterday, and the teams believe that it was swept away by the waves.
Land searches
Therefore, searches began on land with teams from the National Republican Guard (GNR), a drone team from the Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN), Maritime Police and Volunteer Firefighters of Porto Santo.
The newspaper spoke to the commander of the Madeira Maritime Zone, Rui Teixeira, who is coordinating these searches.
Reinforcements come into action tomorrow
Rui Teixeira told our newspaper that the NRP Tejo, the Air Force C-295 and drones from the Madeira Operational Command will arrive in Porto Santo today to help with the search starting tomorrow.
He added that the General Command of the Maritime Police, through the Psychology Office, provided psychological support to the victim’s family. Support that, in fact, is already being provided.
