The fire raging in the mountains of the municipality of Câmara de Lobos remains quite active, with the front that is moving in the area of Boca da Corrida and towards Curral das Freiras continuing with some intensity in an area that is extremely difficult to access.
Speaking to Lusa, the mayor of Câmara de Lobos, Leonel Silva, acknowledged that “the situation is not easy” and added that the forest area that has already been burned is “significant”.
According to the Regional Civil Protection Service, the fire has spread to the parish of Jardim da Serra, and is advancing “towards Curral das Freiras”. This continues to be the most worrying front, since the fight against the flames is practically only carried out by helicopter, given the inaccessible terrain.

There are 11 fire-fighting vehicles and around 35 firefighters in the area of operations, along with the air force and respective heli-transported team.
