IPMA raises warning to orange for hot weather in Madeira

Weather warning will be in force between 00:00 on 16 August until 18:00 on the 17th on the South Coast and in the mountainous regions of the island.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) raised the meteorological warning for hot weather on the South Coast and mountainous regions of Madeira Island to orange.

According to the national meteorological service, very high maximum temperatures, between 28 and 35 ºC, will persist between midnight on 16 August and 6 pm on 17 August, Friday and Saturday.

The orange warning indicates a moderate to high risk meteorological situation, which requires regional entities to remain “up to date with the evolution of meteorological conditions”.

This is an increase in the warning that was in yellow, for maximum temperatures between 25 and 29 ºC.

The rest of the Madeira archipelago – North Coast and Porto Santo – remain under a yellow warning for hot weather, until 6 pm on Saturday.
