PSP team collected and seized the explosive device.

The Deactivation and Explosive Ordnance Teams (EIEEXS) of the Madeira Regional Command, of the Public Security Police, were recently mobilized to collect and seize a military grenade found in a private residence in the municipality of Funchal.

In a statement issued this Thursday, August 8, the police force explains that the emergency intervention arose after the alert given by the owner of the residence, who “indicated the presence of an old grenade, of military use, inside the property”.

The perimeter was isolated by the PSP, with the EIEEXS carrying out “the technical analysis and subsequent collection of the war artifact, in accordance with the established security protocols, transporting it to the police facilities, with a view to further expertise and its formal communication to the competent entities”, can be read in the official statement.

The PSP has recommendations for the population in case of finding a war artifact: ” 1. Do not touch or move the object: Old war artifacts can be unstable and can explode if handled incorrectly; 2. Leave the area: Keep a safe distance from the object. Do not allow other people to approach the object; 3. Contact the authorities: Call the local police. Provide as much information as possible about the object and its location; 4. Do not return to the area until it is safe: The police authorities will tell you when it is safe to return; Remember: your safety is the priority. It is always best to leave the handling of war artifacts to trained professionals.”
