The Ponta da Sol City Council, through its president Célia Pessegueiro, informs, in a press release, that it has activated the Municipal Emergency and Civil Protection Plan following the fire that has been raging in that municipality for more than 36 hours.
It covers the parishes of Canhas and Ponta do Sol, in the municipality of Ponta do Sol, and has immediate effects, being valid for an estimated period of 5 (five) days, without prejudice to extension as the evolution of the specific situation justifies it.
“The rural/forest fire reached the parish of Ponta do Sol on Sunday morning and due to its duration, affected areas, proximity to population clusters and the continuation of adverse weather conditions justify the declaration of a state of alert”, highlights the document from the local authority.
“The measures to be adopted by the population:
a) Given the conditions favourable to the continued spread of rural fires, it is important to adapt and adjust appropriate behaviours and measures in order to avoid occurrences associated with fires;
b) Considering the need to use water to fight fires, the population should reduce the use of drinking water to what is essential;
c) The establishment, for reasons of personal safety or operations, of limits or restrictions on the movement or permanence of people and/or vehicles”, is added.
