“There is reflection on this matter and there are ideas to implement that go in that direction”. This was the response of Eduardo Jesus, when asked this Tuesday by journalists about whether the possibility of closing access to Pico do Areeiro from some point further down is being considered, to solve the chaos that is seen daily in accessing this tourist spot.
One day after the start of the shuttle service operated by Horários do Funchal to Pico do Areeiro, the regional secretary for Economy, Tourism and Culture believes that it is still too early to assess the connection.
“Taking stock at the end of one day is too early,” said the minister, urged by journalists to comment on the demand for this connection, which is not meeting expectations.
On the sidelines of the opening of the Miguel Ângelo Martins exhibition at GALERIA.DOIS at MUDAS.Museu, Eduardo Jesus was asked whether or not this would be the best solution for the chaotic traffic and unregulated parking that has been seen on the way to Pico do Areeiro over the last few months, and stated that “there are several solutions that need to be implemented” and that they have not yet been implemented due to the fact that the Regional Government has been in charge.
“There are several measures being considered that will solve the problem,” he says, believing that the shuttle solution is positive, but that “we need to give it time”. If not, the closure of access to Pico do Areeiro could become a reality.
