Some hiking trails closed due to fire

Among the closed trails is the much sought after path from Pico do Areeiro to Pico Ruivo.

The Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) proceeded, this Friday morning, to the closure, “as a precaution and for safety reasons”, of some classified pedestrian trails that are closer to the fire that has been raging since Wednesday in the mountains of Ribeira Brava and that yesterday spread to the mountainous areas of the municipality of Câmara de Lobos, in the parish of Jardim da Serra.

The PR 1 – Vereda do Areeiro, PR 1.3. – Vereda da Encumeada, PR 2 – Vereda do Urzal and PR 12 – Caminho Real da Encumeada (which has already been closed since yesterday) trails were preventively closed.

These trails “are closed due to the occurrence/progress of a forest fire in the mountain area (ridge)”, reinforces the entity responsible for the forest area of the Region.

In addition to the aforementioned walking trails, the forest path between Eira do Serrado and Pico do Areeiro is also closed.

The fire has two active fronts, one in the Trompica area and the other in the Jardim da Serra area, which has required extra care from the Regional Civil Protection Service. The wind is one of the main adversaries in this fight, which has already lasted three days.
