Heavy rain causes disruptions in Funchal and Madeira Airport

At dawn, persistent rain was most significant in Funchal, Santa Cruz, and Quinta Grande, according to extreme values ​​recorded at the following weather stations: Funchal/Observatory (15.8 mm/h), Quinta Grande (10.3 mm/h), and Santa Cruz/Airport (10.2 mm/h). The heavy rainfall affected normal air operations, forcing the diversion of four planes bound for Madeira International Airport – Cristiano Ronaldo.

Until the end of the morning (12:00), Funchal/Observatory recorded the highest accumulated rainfall in the region, with 34.5 mm, followed by Monte (30.2 mm), Santa Cruz/Airport (28.0 mm) and Quinta Grande (26.0 mm).

Before dawn, the most significant hourly records had occurred in Quinta Grande (10.3 mm/h) and Monte (10.3 mm/h), with these being the highest hourly values ​​until 8 am.

On Madeira Island, until the last minute, there was no record of precipitation at the meteorological stations in Santana and São Vicente.
