Ship carrying deadly virus was scheduled to stop in Funchal

The Hondius’s debut in Madeira was scheduled for the 12th and was part of an itinerary that included stops in Cape Verde and the Canary Islands. The ship remains in quarantine after the presence of hantavirus was confirmed, a rare infection mainly associated with rodents and with an overall mortality rate of around 36%.

The ship is currently in the Cape Verde region where authorities are refusing to let the ship dock.
