Tests are free for everyone weekly

I was just updating my post on the new measures when I received a message from the Tourism Board to tell me all tests are free for everyone only 1 per week. You can see the conversation on the link below.

Of course no more replies to my last questions on the messenger chat, and here in Canico we have been told there will be no tests till December 2nd.

So please take a look at the updated Measures for entering Madeira and the weekly testing, and if anything changes I will let you know.

  1. Free for everyone but there are none left. Madeira needs to learn that mass population testing isn’t feasible if you don’t hand out test kits for people to do themselves. Why is this cheaper and more effective route not being persued?

    1. Hi Tobi, Thanks for all your valuable info, do you know if they have a testing station set up in the airport for new arrivals we are due out soon and finding this very worrying. If you can find out and post it on your site I’m sure a lot of people would be grateful.

      1. They have resting at the airport up in departures. The queues have been pretty long. They are plenty of places in Funchal, where you might queue less.

  2. For visitors, I have received this from our Pestana rep. I had asked, as the option to book the test did not show (except for return to home country, where needed) on the app or Madeirasafe website:
    ‘Kindly note that you will only be able to request the ANTIGEN test on the Madeira Safe platform once you land in Madeira. Once you submit your request, you will receive an email with the code and list of available locations to perform it.’

      Not good news as I doubt, we will be able to get the test that quickly, have heard that you can go into a chemists and pay 20 euro , so will do that I think, don’t fancy 3hrs queueing in the rain!

  3. Hi Tobi, thank you for your info. My husband and I -and many other locals and tourists- waited in line more than 2 hours in a testing station on Estrada Monumental. We were told there tests are only free for Madeirenses, permanent residents, or tourists who have to fly within 48 hours. All others paid 20€ each today. Clearly, they are overwhelmed. I have always admired how well Madeira organized things in Covid times, but this station was pure chaos. In fact, I hope they can match the tests to the persons having the test done – I’m afraid the way it was (dis)organized could easily lead to confusion on their part.

I just left Madeira on November 18th and had a PCP test at clinic da Se,which is right by the cathedral downtown, but had to pay 90 Euros and got my results within 12 hours and a PDF to print the results. I scheduled it in advance. I simply went in and reserved my time for 10am in the 17th and my friend and I got it done.
