A car caught fire earlier on the highway in the Boa Nova area, in the Santa Cruz-Funchal direction.

The Madeira Volunteer Firefighters are already on site battling the flames, which spread through the undergrowth and threatened a nearby house. Eight personnel were mobilized to the scene, assisted by a heavy fire engine and a heavy firefighting vehicle.
Traffic was heavily congested in the Santa Cruz-Funchal direction.
