Flight from London to Madeira diverted to Lisbon.

The easyJet flight from Gatwick to Madeira International Airport – Cristiano Ronaldo was diverted to Lisbon International Airport – Humberto Delgado on Tuesday, December 23rd.

Flight EZY6491 was scheduled to arrive at Santa Cruz airport at 5:50 PM, but landed in the Portuguese capital at 5:18 PM. 

There are reports that the flight was diverted due to a medical emergency on board, information that has not yet been officially confirmed. 

The flight will depart from Lisbon Airport at 5:55 PM bound for its initial destination, Madeira.

The same happened last Sunday 14th, going from Madeira to Gatwick, again with easyjet,landing in France, before finally arriving in Gatwick later that evening.

  1. I was on this one. A lady fell ill on board. I wont go into the details for her sake but Easyjet put out a call over the tannoy asking if anyone was a medical professional. Fortunately there happened to be a nurse on board who helped the lady until we could land in Lisbon. In the end the lady in question ended up walking off the plane, so fingers crossed she will be OK. The cabin crew handled it very well I thought. My only gripe was how long it took to get medical help once the plane landed in Lisbon. After a while some medics boarded the plane from the front, but they needed to move the lady from the back of the plane and there was some sort of problem with connecting the stairs to the back of the aircraft that must have taken about 20 minutes to resolve in total. All this was while we were still waiting for an ambulance to arrive…. It must have been at least half an hour before it finally did, it was a good job the lady was stable by then. I kind of assumed that in cases like this where the pilots would be speaking to ground control far in advance of an emergency landing that the emergency teams would be on the ground ready for that aeroplane to land so they can assist immediately. Im not blaming those involved, perhaps it was just bad timing (or lack of resouces.) In the end we got into Madeira about 8.30 so no harm done
