Meia.Dúzia Sabores de Portugal opens its first store in Funchal, next to the Cathedral.
The idea was born in 2012 when two siblings, Andreia Ferreira and Jorge Ferreira, decided that Portuguese gastronomy deserved a new way of existing. Not in ephemeral dishes, but preserved, preserved, and taken wherever life takes them. The chosen format was the squeeze tube. Simple, intimate, surprising. Inside each one, ingredients 100% from specific regions of Portugal: olives from the Douro, pineapple from the Azores, chestnuts from Trás-os-Montes, figs with Port wine, among other flavors.
Thus, the Portuguese company, named meia.dúzia, specialized in the manufacture of pasta, sauces, jams, chocolates and honey packaged in tubes. And it created Sabores de Portugal (Flavors of Portugal), whose production is based on raw materials and ingredients from various Portuguese origins, combining gastronomy with an image inspired by the world of art.
Now, the brand, which is present in mainland Portugal, exports to more than 20 countries and has garnered awards in Madrid, Brussels, London and Berlin, is opening its first experiential store in Funchal.
The new space, which is already operating in a kind of ‘soft opening’, is located at Rua do Aljube, number 63, next to the emblematic Funchal Cathedral, and will be open every day between 10 am and 8 pm.
In the new Madeiran space, which will be officially inaugurated on June 9th, it is possible to have the opportunity to enjoy tastings that include specialties such as olive pastes from the Douro and Beira Baixa regions, fig sweets with Port wine, dark chocolates from São Tomé combined with national fruits and wines, traditional pumpkin and almond jams, chestnut paste from Trás-os-Montes, and mango or pineapple chutneys from the Azores.
As Jorge Ferreira explains, to mark its arrival in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, meia.dúzia has developed exclusive products made with local ingredients. Among the new options are Madeira banana jam with clementine and Madeira rum, passion fruit jam with ginger, dark chocolate with Madeira wine, and passion fruit chocolate.
Furthermore, the brand has established local partnerships to integrate typical products into its offerings, such as traditional poncha, honey bread, honey cake, and sugarcane honey, with the aim of creating exclusive regional gift baskets that serve as gastronomic souvenirs. With this investment, the brand’s management aims to contribute to boosting the local economy and the tourism sector, through the diversification of its commercial offerings and the international promotion of the region’s flavors.
With this opening, the artisan-focused brand expands its national presence beyond the official stores it already has in Porto and Lisbon, aiming to reach both residents and tourists visiting the archipelago.
