Gay Pride Funchal Tomorrow

It is already tomorrow that the 1 st March of LGBTI + Pride in Funchal, a peaceful demonstration for the rights of the LGBTI + population in the main arteries of the city, will take place at 3 pm.

In addition to the network ex aequo – Association of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex and supporters, in partnership with the Abraço Association, the APF – Family Planning Association, the Portuguese Foundation ‘The Community Against AIDS’ and group Mad le’s Femme, will also go to UMAR – Alternative Women’s Union and Response, the Opus Gay, from Lisbon, and the NAIF – Amnesty International Center of Funchal.

The meeting point is in Praça do Município and ends at the Funchal Municipal Garden Auditorium, where Arraial Pride Funchal will take place.

After the speeches, which include, among others, that of Mariana Bettencourt, director of the Gender Equality Service of the Regional Secretariat for Inclusion and Social Affairs, the initiative will feature the performance of Alexandra Barbosa and Noun, as well as the folklore group of the House of the People of Gaula. There will also be transformism with drag queen Alecia Fluffy, stand-up comedy by Nuno Morna and Michael Yang’s musical selection.

The event aims to bring visibility to LGBTI people and encourage supporters to also fight against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia.

The primary aim of the organization’s initiative is to throw the stone in the pool on these issues, bringing lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex people to the visibility and safe use of public space without fear of expressing their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Integrated in Funchal Pride, the event counts with the support of the Funchal City Council and the INTIMATE research project, based at the Center for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra.
