IASAÚDE did not register new positive cases of covid-19 in the Autonomous Region of Madeira during the last 24 hours, and for the sixth consecutive day.

  3. Good for Madeira. Here in Norway we are still on a waiting scale. Kindergardens and the schols for the youngest are open. We have a very open country, not same as Sweden. Travelling is restricted. I wonder what TAP will request from us in December when we hope to get back to our Island.

    1. The airport us open for two flights a week from lisbon, and cargo flight everyday. Albuquerque didn’t get authorisation to close the airport. This is why he put the mandatory two week quarantine in place.

    2. Thank you Tobi. The airport is not closed. The Republic which has authority to do so has not done it. Easyjet selling tickets from the 18th of May. Reply from Albuquerque: “I hope those flights are cancelled due to the lack of passengers but if they are not then everyone is going to mandatory quarantine”. If the airport was closed the reply would be: the airport is closed, end of story, it does not matter if easyjet is selling tickets or not. Madeira has the authorithy to ask for healh certificate to fly and for sending arriving passengers to mandaroty quarantine. That is what has been done. But the airport is not closed.

      An airport can never truly close. The tower will be staffed in case of emergencies. A flight from Europe to South America may need to land in an emergency but Porto Santo would be the obvious diversion runway. CR7 is a nightmare to land on even for experienced pilots, would be even worse if a plane has a problem(e.g. engine fire).

      1. But that is not what I meant. The airport is not closed for commercial activity. If say BA wanted to schedule a flight, sell tickets and fly to Madeira next week it would be possible to do it. However, because Madeira is demanding a mandatory “health certificate” which you can find below:

        The passengers need this approval fron local authorities to be able do disembark. If say the passengers fullfilled the requirements of the certificate then BA would be able to take the passengers to Madeira.

        If BA wanted to make a flight to bring passengers BA back to the UK it would be able to schedule a flight, sell tickets and fly to Madeira. Im sorry Maurice, but the airport is not closed. You have the freedom to say what you want even if it is not correct. I do not intend to go on with this debate.
