Madeira will stay in state of Calamity throughout July

The Government Council decided to extend the calamity during the month of July.

The resolution was taken on June 18 and was published in JORAM.

The resolution declares, following the
epidemiological situation of COVID- 19, the calamity situation in the entire territory of the Region, with the aim of promoting the containment of the COVID- 19 pandemic, and
preventing the contagion and spread of the disease, with effects from 0.00 hours on July 1, 2020 until 23.59 hours on July 31, 2020.

The Basic Law for Civil Protection provides for three states: Alert, contingency and calamity. It expressly foresees the possibility that, in the event of a state of calamity, and for reasons of security of the citizens themselves or of civil protection operations, limits are set on citizens’ right of movement, which must be carried out in compliance with
the principle of proportionality and for
safeguarding other fundamental rights, such as the right to life, physical integrity and health of others.
