NRP DOURO ENDS MISSION IN MADEIRA

After completing 167 days of mission, sailing 612 hours and covering 5798 nautical miles (equivalent to 10,737kms), the NRP Douro started at the end of yesterday to return to the Naval Base in Lisbon, ending its mission in the Maritime Zone of Madeira.

Even in an emergency period established in the country due to the covid-19, the ship was engaged in several tasks essentially aimed at functions of security and authority of the state at sea, garrisoning the standard naval device of the Navy in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. In addition to these functions, the ship guaranteed the surrender of nature watchers on desert islands and Maritime Police agents.

The patrol vessel Douro, model STANFLEX 300, is commanded by first lieutenant David Manuel Buínho Menúrias and has a garrison of 26 soldiers. This Tagus Class vessel was increased to the number of Navy ships on May 12, 2017.
