Flights cancelled due to wind at Madeira Airport

Easyjet has cancelled the flight from Gatwick to the island today due to the bad weather forecast. This flight has been rescheduled for Wednesday 2nd December.

Yesterday Jet2 cancelled the Edinburgh flight and this has been rescheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday 1st December.

The few flights that have made the journey to the island today, have all landed without any problems.

  2. Your accusation re EasyJet is wrong, weather here currently is wet, windy, very cold and frequently changing,

  4. I would second those comments, Jet2 have been pretty good. EasyJet couldn’t care less, but just be thankful you aren’t dependent on Ryanair !

  5. Interesting views re Easy Jet ? Aside from this year, we’ve been coming to Madeira pretty much every year for Christmas and New Year (plus a few summer trips) since 1999; all, bar a couple, when BA was easier re dates, with EJ, including in grotty weather. Never had a canx, nor any re-routes, nor delay (except once of only 2 hrs, which is negligiblr). Even when flights were cancelled this covid year for our May booked visit, our money was refunded with no fuss at all within 3 months. Can’t fault them and their service …. so far! ??

I must have been incredibly lucky over many years flying with Easyjet, whether it has been my flights back to the UK or my families flights from Bristol. 2 incidents only . 1 diversion to Porto Santo, put in hotel and ferry next day ( years ago ) . 2nd , flight didn’t land in Madeira due to wind so I had to wait until next morning to fly back . Both incidents happened to me , not family. All family and friends flights have gone ok .

  7. Same here, did fly with easy jet many times only once could the plane not land, were put into a good hotel very quickly and we even got a hot breakfast at 5 in the morning!!! Crew were lovely and helpful!! It’s not their fault the weather is bad. I am sure it’s easier for the short haul flights to try. EasyJet has also a price promise se when I discovered that by the time we were flying the price was down after one phone cal I had a voucher for the money we paid extra, no other airline does that. We are sorry they don’t fly from Scotland anymore

  8. Forgot to say that when we were diverted to Porto Santo, Easyjet refunded the flight costs( apparently because they failed to get us to our destination ), paid for hotel and ferry .

  9. I noticed three flights that arrived this morning (2 from Lisbon and the other from Porto Santo) landed in Madeira with no problem and in advance of their scheduled time. The Edinburgh Jet.2 flight and the Gatwick EasyJet 14:05pm flight ‘pulled stumps’ far too early. I’m now going to make sure I go via BA from Heathrow from now on, hopefully Spring of 2021, and ditch EasyJet as an option – no pun intended.

    2. I have to back up Jet2 on this flight from Edinburgh. As the Scottish central belt is under lockdown, most travellers on this flight would have been travelling at least 100 miles to get to the airport. As the flight was due to leave at 08.45 it would have been too late to inform customers on the day. They therefore cancelled the flight the night before based on the weather forecast and in so doing saved the passengers an unnecessary journey to the airport. The airline was putting it’s passengers first here.

    Had booked jet 2 for the first time but they cancelled so switched to BA our normal carrier but praise to jet2 who refunded in two days
    British airways have excellent pilots and have been told by an Easy jet pilot friend that the majority of easyjet pilots are not experienced to land at Madeira especially when there is more than a breeze !

    1. Why the constant knocking of EasyJet, I have flown with them five times this yearand have been using them for ten without any reason to complain. The decision to allow an aircraft to land in Madeira is not made by the pilot of the aircraft but by the Airport Authorities subject to rulings laid down by the Portuguese. This applies to all airlines and all pilots are trained to the same standard. As to the merits of the comments by BA pilots, have you ever heard an electrician, motor mechanic, any so called craftsman say a good word about another.

  11. I have flown with easyJet several times and my experience has been much the same see Ann, Jane and Catherina.
    Delayed going home twice by weather and looked after very well.
    You can only say as you find, but ‘ avoid at all costs’, and ‘ couldn’t care less’ from the anti- easyJet brigade is rubbish.

As the subject seems to be Easyjet, I was on a flight some time ago , when it was announced that the pilot was female . 3 senior citizens seated behind me were outraged that a woman was flying the plane . I know I should have challenged them but the conversation was so funny I kept quiet . Incidentally , we had one of the best landings ever .

    1. I believe they have quite a few female pilots now. No reason why airlines shouldn’t have women pilots.
