MADEIRA WITH 26 NEW CASES, 25 FROM LOCAL TRANSMISSION

26 new cases to report and 25 of these are from local transmission.

Six children and young people from Funchal, Câmara de Lobos and Calheta among those infected.

Today there are 9 more recovered cases to report. The Region now accounts for 561 recovered cases of covid-19.

Regarding the isolation of active cases, 32 people are isolated in a dedicated hotel unit, 155 in their own accommodation and 2 people are hospitalized – 1 in the Multipurpose Unit dedicated to covid-19 and 1 patient in the Intensive Care Unit dedicated to covid- 19.

There are still 98 new situations under study by the health authorities, 5 from the screening operation at Madeira airport and 93 related to contacts with positive cases, situations reported to the SRS24 line or by SESARAM, EPERAM. Epidemiological investigations are ongoing.

  1. The Region continues with two deaths associated with the disease.

  1. With the best will in the world -Madeira tried but looks like the virus is now runnng rife among all comminities?
    Best we all make concerted efforts to not socialise, adhere to social distancing and be considerate for all regardless of age /colour of race and beliefs
    This Covid -19 and all its mutations are real

Yes, they have done a great job so far but I really think it is a mistake to allow local people or residents arriving back in Madeira to go to their homes where they are living with their families (if this is indeed what is happening). I can’t see families all sitting around of an evening with masks on and disinfecting everything the arrival touches. Even if the person initially tests negative things could change within days and before you know it the virus could be passed to the other people living in the home. I think this is very risky. I was also amazed to read an ex-pat blog the other day where a lot of new people coming to live on the island for a couple of months or so are asking others to meet up for a drink as they want to meet new people. Don’t they realise how dangerous that is – of course if you try to tell them that they would just call you ‘alarmist’. People just need to start to believe this virus is REAL, act responsibly and stick to the rules and we will get through this.

  3. … Running Rife ?? bit of an exaggeration considering the low numbers ,, the Virus is “REAL” but seeing that we’ve been getting constant daily numbers now for a couple of months but only 2 people in hospital and unfortunately 2 deaths realistically I don’t think it’s that much of a massive health problem to be getting over Panicky about …

    1. Totally agree. With such small numbers for months and months it was to be expected that just about 20 daily cases in a 300,000 population would cause this sort of reaction.

  4. I am following the situation with concern, the German Government has already classified the Azores as a risk area from the 29 December onwards. The classification as a risk area will take place as soon as there are more than 50 infections per 100,000 people in a week.
    Similarly, 20 infections per day would already lead to the classification of a risk area.
    The classification as a risk area alone would not worry me, I live in Berlin, which is classified as a risk area. The problem for us Germans, however, if we have been on holiday in a risk area, we have to go into quarantine for 10 days after our return to Germany and this leads to problems with our employer for many of us Germans.
    I am very undecided how I will decide, it depends on the development in the next week.
    I would love to come to Madeira?
