New Measures come into effect from Wednesday

The President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, announced this Monday the new set of restrictive measures for Madeira, to be in force until 31 January.

The measures now adopted are intended to reduce the flow of circulation and concentration of people, while guaranteeing the possible functioning of economic and social activities, avoiding the unfavorable, economic, social and psychological effects that total confinement would cause at this time.

A. Prohibition of Circulation

Until January 31st, circulation on public roads is prohibited between 7:00 pm and 5:00 am the following day.

On weekends, Saturdays and Sundays and holidays, this movement ban on public roads is between 6.00 pm and 5. 00 am the next day.

The exceptions are those contained in the Resolution of the Governing Council of the 7th of January (resolution 17/2021).

B. Operation of Industrial, Commercial and Service Activities

Until the 31st of January, all activities of an industrial, commercial and service nature in the Autonomous Region of Madeira will remain in operation with the necessary conditions, but will have to close at 6.00pm on weekdays.

On weekends – Saturdays, Sundays and municipal holidays this closes at 5.00 pm.

Until January 31 and during the weekdays (Monday to Friday) will only be allowed to operate the restaurants until 10 pm, exclusively for the preparation of meals for delivery.

Only professionals associated with the delivery of meals at home may circulate after the curfew, until 10 pm, with proper identification.

The following establishments are excluded from the previous number:

a) Workshop pharmacy

b) Medical and veterinary clinics and offices

c) Oxygen and medical gas services at home

d) Fuel filling stations (only for vehicle filling)

C. Educational establishments

From Wednesday, January 13, face-to-face classes for students of the 3rd Cycle and Secondary Education are suspended in all schools in the Autonomous Region of Madeira until January 31.

All other levels of education: Crèches / Kindergartens / Pre-school / 1st Cycle, 2nd Cycle, Professional and Special Education maintain their activities in person.

All out-of-school activities, in person, are suspended until 31 January.

D. Sport

All sports activities in the Clubs and sports infrastructures in all the Counties of the Region, with the exception of the Senior Teams of the modalities with participation in regular National competitions, are suspended until 31 January.

E. Teleworking / Day Continues for Public Administration

Telecommuting is encouraged for all Public Administration whenever it is applicable and justified, as well as the Continuous Working Hours Regime in order to reduce contacts and the circulation of people.

F. Gambling Establishments

Until January 31, all establishments or Fortuna Gambling, Casinos, Bingo or similar, should end the 17 hours on weekends 16th 17th / 23rd 24th and 30th and 31st January.

During the week and until January 31, these same establishments will close at 6 pm.

All of these measures will take effect from midnight on the 13th of January, Wednesday.
