Rain, wind and rough sea: yellow warning in Madeira and Porto Santo at the weekend

A date many of us wish to forget 20th February.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) issued a yellow warning for the Region, already for this weekend, expecting rough seas, a lot of wind and heavy rain, especially during the dawn and Saturday morning.

On the North Coast of Madeira the alert is for persistent rain, sometimes heavy, especially between 3 am and 12 pm on Saturday.

Already from 12:00 pm on Saturday and until 7:00 am on Sunday, the warning is for sea waves, with northwest waves between 4 and 5 meters being expected.

The south coast will also be under yellow warning for persistent, sometimes heavy rain, between 3 am to 12 pm on Saturday, as well as for the strong southwest wind, with gusts up to 80 km / h.

Porto Santo also expects persistent rain, sometimes heavy, accompanied by strong southwest wind, with gusts up to 80 km / h, between 3 am and 12 pm on Saturday.

The sea will be rough, with waves from the northwest with 4 to 5 meters, which will continue until 7 am on Sunday.

In Madeira, there is also a yellow warning for mountainous areas, with persistent rain and strong southwest wind, with gusts up to 110 km / h, between 3 am and 12 pm on Saturday.
