MACHICO REGISTERS 11 OF THE 14 NEW CASES TODAY

Machico today registered 11 of the 14 new positive cases of covid-19. The municipality occupies the first position in a list of the ten municipalities in the country with the highest incidence of cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days.

Machico has been the worse county for a number if days now, and is the only county with increased active cases, today Machico has 96 active cases.

  1. But isn’t Machico the site of one of the hotels where incoming travellers testing positive are being confined? Is this just a coincidence or are the travellers not being confined ?

    1. I’m pretty sure what few travellers are are being confined if they test positive so are unlikely to have caused the spread. It says Machico registered those cases but that doesnt just mean the town, it means the whole area which takes in a lot of the surrounding areas like Canical, Porto Da Cruz, Agua de penha so the cases could be in any of those places and on balance are much more likely to have been picked up from other locals.

    2. No, no hotels in Machico are currently being used ad quarantine hotels. There are about 250 rooms in Funchal for that purpose of which only 21 are being used so there is no need to take people to Machico.

  2. The latest information I can find suggests that a destination should have 50% of the population vaccinated to be on the UK travel, green corridor. Any idea if or when this figure would be achieved. I expect by now, most of your regular UK visitors are now fully vaccinated so it’s down to the rollout of the Madeira vaccination and the uptake of the vaccine that will determine when I can next visit my favourite island and people. Keep safe and have the vaccine.
