ALBUQUERQUE CRITICIZES GATHERINGS IN THE OLD TOWN AND STRESSES THAT “THE PANDEMIC HAS NOT PASSED”

Miguel Albuquerque took the opportunity to remember that the pandemic has not yet passed and criticised the “irresponsibility” of those individuals who were out in the Old Town last Saturday,as seen in the video below.

  3. Maybe the young just read Boris Johnson conference in SkyNews and believe the pandemic HAS passed?

  4. Maybe he sould be more concerned about visitors importing covid onto the island ? like the vaccinated people entering the island without a covid test rather then a few young people gathering and having a good time at the weekend.

    2. A well dressed young man came up to us in the health food shop in Funchal and thanked us for coming to the island to support the ailing tourism infrastructure.

    3. I am more than happy to have a covid test despite having had two covid vaccinations if it keeps the island safe.

    4. Both are problematic, Steve.
      But even more problematic than allowing vaccinated people to enter without a test, is allowing children to escape test scrutiny. The Porto Santo Line for instance, exempts children from needing a test to board the Lobo Marino – it just so happens that children are the least likely group to have been vaccinated AND the Delta variant is increasing its hold in the region with its greatly increased transmissibility: in relatively well vaccinated countries we are seeing an uptick in cases in children. Children are also the least likely to wear masks.

      1. Do you need to stay close to children? Probably not, so leave that to whoever is in charge of them. Their parents.

        1. Antonio – indoors, the virus spreads easily via the air. You don’t have to spend a long time close to an infected person, to become infected, especially with the new more contagious variants. Just passing by an infected person, if that person is not masked, you will likely breathe in micro-droplets from their exhalations. This is unavoidable in transportation situations, such as the Lobo Marino, unless you are suggesting that parents should immobilise their children on the outer decks at all times? LOL… Good luck with that.

  5. We were in the Old Town on Saturday evening, blame the Euro Football as most of the bars were crowded with non mask wearing football supporters.

  6. Yep, reminds me of the Scottish Tartan Army heading for Wembley, now the virus is at its highest level since last year.
    These people are not required to test or even wear masks but those of us who have travelled here are required to spend hundreds on tests coming to, and returning from, Madeira! €600 for two of us!

    1. I was more than surprised on reaching Madeira to find I did not need to test but if Madeira doesn’t feel it necessary, then so be it. Their country, their rules.
      600 Euros to be done, you were well and truly.

  7. Anna totally agree I assume you are talking about vaccinated visitors no covid test to enter Madeira ? It’s will come to end soon the island will be on every red list going by the looks of things.

    1. Tobi, very kindly, every day posts the medical details for Madeira. I haven’t seen the catastrophic rise you persist, despite the evidence, forecasting. It seems you will only be content when you are right, why don’t you and Richard form your own little blog, call it , The Happy Days Mis-information Society.

    Your response to the fact that children are likely spreading it is complete tosh, our youngest son was going to a private party with his wife,young sons and was requested ( as it turns out sensibly ) to take a test before they went, with complete confidence they had their tests last friday, to their shock, the youngest,showing no symptoms what so ever and still not, tested positive, now we are getting very worrying texts about how poorly dad and mum are, two children not a sign of illness want entertaining and looking after and parents not capable. This is a family that has followed the rules to the letter, and if not for that test would have gone on trip and probably infected others before they even knew they were infected.
    Children are hard to control at best of times, in this situation its impossibly difficult.
    Now add in, we are worried sick and even if in UK could not go and help.
