Madeira registers 17 new cases of Covid-19 and 22 recovered

Madeira registers this Friday 17 new cases of infection by SARS-CoV-2 in RAM, which accounts for 11478 confirmed cases of COVID-19. There are 6 imported cases (3 from the UK, 2 from the Netherlands and 1 from the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region) and 11 cases of local transmission. Epidemiological investigations are ongoing.

There are today, according to the epidemiological bulletin, another 22 recovered cases to report. We now have 169 active cases.

  1. There is a story online that 3 young men travelled to Madeira. They did PCR tests prior to arrival but the lab didn’t send the results in time . They were all tested at the airport . 1 tested positive. However, all 3 were put into a quarantine hotel .

    1. Yes, that is normal procedure. They are part of the same group and therefore considered high risk contacts.

    Appreciate al your posts.
    Is there any evidence that Passengers on the same flights on as though people who import Covid infect others on the flight?
    Are all local transmission defined as residents or does it include infections caused locally by imported cases?

  3. The Telegraph and The Times are reporting that there is a less than 0.1 % chance of becoming infected on a flight .

    1. The chances of getting infected by a random person on board are slim. However if you are travelling as part of a group the risk is higher. They are not isolated because they shared the same flight, they are isolated because probably they shared a car to go to the airport, probably they had lunch together, probably they shared a pack of chips on the flight, probably they hang out a few days before the flight. The authorithies ask all these questions to make a decision.

    Quite understand why the 3 were put into quarantine . It’s helpful for others to know that a close contact can be quarantined too for those reading the blog .

  6. I was wondering about cases where tourists test positive on their pre-return LFT. Are these counted:
    a) as imported cases in these statistics
    b) as local transmission, or
    c) not included in these figures?
