Nursing Home Cases Increase

As already reported this morning, an outbreak of Covid-19 is active in a nursing home Gaula.

This outbreak already adds up to 2 dozen infected. The number of infections is divided between users and employees.

All the contingency measures are in place, and all those associated are in isolation.

  1. Two choices – go into lockdown or not.
    The only country virus free in the world, and is still virus free, went into lockdown immediately and is still in lockddown.

    1. And your point is? What exactly do you expect lockdown to achieve now that the virus is endemic. You cannot eliminate it (it is my area of research so I do know what I’m talking about), it will spread as viruses do, so is that how you suggest we live our lives for the foreseeable future, cut off from everyone and everything? Although NZ has tried and if that is where you are referring to, it is not virus free – it has an ongoing outbreak even though its borders are closed. At some point the costs of failed businesses, broken families, lack of concern for other illnesses, etc., have to be balanced in a cost-benefit analysis. Would you be suggesting a lockdown if this was an outbreak of flu – just as serious in a setting such as a nursing home.

      1. Restrictions rather than expecting full lockdown flatten the curve of this wave & reduce risk of pressure on Madeira health services. In U.K. uncontrolled spread means the average daily admissions are now 1,025. The median length of stay with Covid is 7 days. Therefore every day the NHS is losing 7,175 bed days needed fir non-Covid illnesses & procedures. The virus is now endemic but precautions protect health services.

  2. At least the residents should have been double-vaccinated so even if they catch it they shouldn’t suffer too badly. Friend of ours was gifted a dose of covid by her son and she says she just felt crap for two weeks, developed a cough which lasted less than a week. Worst thing was feeling tired all the time. She is over it now. Well worth being vaccinated. Getting my booster tomorrow morn ??

  3. I have received three Physer jabs to date.
    The first, zero side effects.
    The second, really grotty, for thirty-three days.
    The third last week – so far so good!
    Side effects certainly better than the alternative, not so ?
